Full Swing Golf

Full Swing Golf's official indoor golf handicap calculation is based on the USGA golf handicap guidelines. To learn more about the USGA golf handicap guidelines go to The USGA Handicap System Manual.

The USGA calculation has been slightly adapted to the calculation of the indoor golf handicap to make it more suitable to our needs in the spirit of protecting the security and fairness of the competition.

In order to acquire an indoor golf handicap, the player needs to play a minimum of three completed rounds in any 9 or 18-hole Online Tournament or Practice Round.

In addition, the golf games are computed towards a handicap and are dependent upon the following criteria:

  • All three 9 or 18-hole rounds need to be completed.
  • The Online Tournament the round was played in must be completed. The following statement is an example of what will appear if this is not the case: "Two of the games for Thomas are Still in Progress". The reason for this is to allow the organizer to adjust scores in anyway necessary prior to computing the round towards a handicap.
  • Handicap indexes are computed every Sunday night. The reason for this is to prevent handicaps from being manipulated up and/or down on a daily basis.

Our system recalculates player's handicaps every Sunday night. The calculation is as follows:

  • For each completed round, a handicap index is calculated taking into account the golf course slope and rating for the tee played. The calculation formula is: gross score x slope / rating.
  • Up to 20 of the player's completed rounds are collected.
  • From the completed rounds, a combined set of the best scores are selected. The exact number selected is calculated according to the following table:
Qualifying rounds Significant rounds
3 2
4 2
5 3
6 3
7 4
8 4

  • The handicap indexes of the selected rounds are averaged and multiplied by an indoor golf coefficient. The coefficient we currently use is 0.98.

  • In addition to using the course slope and ratings of each course to calculate your handicap, the individual hole's handicap index and Equitable Stroke Control are also factored in.
  • According to the USGA Handicap System Manual, the "Equitable Stroke Control" (ESC) is the downward adjustment of individual hole scores for handicap purposes in order to make handicaps more representative of a player's potential ability. ESC sets a maximum number that a player can post on any hole depending on the player's Course Handicap. ESC is used only when a player's actual or most likely score exceeds the player's maximum number based on the table in Section 4-3.
  • Equitable Stroke Control is applied after the round and is only used if your actual score surpasses the maximum score you are permitted to take.

Here are a few considerations to keep in mind regarding the handicap calculation:

  • The system issued handicap a player uses is the current handicap assigned to the player when they register to play an Online Tournament.

  • When a player registers to play a tournament directly on the simulator, the simulator will draw upon the current handicap issued by the system.

  • Other tournaments allow the player to enter a handicap when they register to play an Online Tournament.

  • There may be a tournament offered by an organizer where a different handicap is required to play other than the current player's handicap.

  • To maintain a stable handicap calculation be sure you only have one Full Swing Golf Indoor Club Player account. If you have created more than one account with a different email address your handicap calculation could be jeopardized. If you think you may have created more than one player account contact us immediately at tournaments@fullswinggolf.com to correct this for you.

  • The handicap index calculates differently with each course you play. You can get a round score of 107 and get an index of 20.0 and then you can get a round score of 94 and get an index of 23.4. It all depends on the slope and rating for each course, the individual hole's index and whether or not the Equitable Stroke Control is applied.

  • The maximum handicap is 36.4. For ladies, the maximum handicap is 40.4.
